A New Chapter for Surrey: Launching Our 2026-2030 Strategy

Poetry has the unique power to turn a quiet thought into a community movement. At The Surrey Poet Laureateship, we have seen firsthand how a single stanza can build confidence, bridge generations, and spark lifelong creativity.

Today, we are thrilled to turn the page and invite you into our next chapter. We are officially launching our brand-new strategy, a bold vision designed to transform the cultural landscape of our county over the next four years.

Our Vision for 2030

Our mission is to inspire creativity, foster connection, nurture wellbeing, and develop skills through poetry, empowering people of all ages and backgrounds to express themselves, grow, and thrive.

The Roadmap: 2026 – 2030

Over the next four years, we are scaling our impact and deepening our roots. To do this, we will:

  • Build our reputation as the South East’s trusted poetry organisation, championing creativity, fostering community, and nurturing wellbeing.

  • Elevate our brand profile to drive fundraising, secure strong regional and national partnerships, and increase access to poetry for all communities.

  • Become a trusted delivery partner for youth engagement, education initiatives, mental health, and heritage poetry projects.

  • Bring together more people, places, and partners through our unique role as a convener, catalyst, and enabler of inclusive, creative opportunities.

Our Strategic Priorities

At the heart of this new era are five core pillars that will guide every workshop, performance, and partnership we lead:

  1. Poetry for Creativity: Championing bold expression and cultivating talent at every stage of life.

  2. Poetry for Community: Fostering meaningful connections and a shared sense of belonging.

  3. Poetry for Wellbeing: Harnessing the power of verse to build resilience and emotional health.

  4. Poetry for Access & Inclusion: Removing barriers to ensure poetry is open to everyone.

  5. Poetry for Education & Skills: Supporting literacy and creative thinking in schools and beyond.

This isn’t just a plan; it’s a promise. It lays the foundation for a future where poetry is not only celebrated but recognised as an essential part of Surrey’s vibrant cultural life.
