At the Surrey Poet Laureateship, we believe in the collective power of community engagement to bring the beauty of poetry to everyone in our county. Our volunteers play a crucial role in this mission, and we are currently seeking individuals who are passionate about literature and community service to join our team.

Event Management and Support: We organise a range of outreach events that require careful planning and execution. As a volunteer, you could be involved in managing these events, ensuring they run smoothly. This may include assisting the laureate during school visits, where the joy of poetry is introduced to young minds, making appearances at festivals to celebrate our rich literary culture, or participating in prison visits to share the transformative power of poetry with those seeking new beginnings. By aiding the laureate and ensuring these events are successful, you will be directly contributing to the spread of literary appreciation throughout Surrey.

Facilitator Opportunities: As the Surrey Poet Laureateship continues to grow, so does our need for dedicated volunteers to serve as workshop facilitators. Our workshops play a pivotal role in our outreach, bringing the power and pleasure of poetry to various groups within the community. While our Laureate spearheads this effort, the demand for these enriching workshops exceeds what one individual can meet. We are seeking volunteers who can step into the role of workshop facilitators, carrying the Laureate's mission into schools, care homes, and other community settings. A DBS check will be required for those interested in this role, ensuring the safety and trustworthiness of our team. We provide comprehensive training for all facilitators, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to lead these workshops effectively. By becoming a facilitator, you will play a critical role in continuing our important work, reaching out to even more individuals across Surrey and making a tangible difference through the art of poetry.

Promotional and Outreach Activities: In addition to event support, we also need volunteers who can help promote the laureateship. This involves a range of activities from digital promotion on social media to community outreach, helping to raise awareness about our initiatives and events. Whether you have a knack for social media, enjoy interacting with the community, or have ideas on how to better engage people with poetry, your skills and enthusiasm are invaluable to us.
